Our History
Electronics Contract Manufacturing

Since 1988, OCM Manufacturing has provided high-quality electronic contract manufacturing and turnkey supply chain management services tailored for low- to mid-volume product lines. We are proud to be the most experienced and stable contract electronics manufacturing organization in the region.

In a notoriously cyclical industry, we have remained a reliable service provider for our OEM customers, delivering consistently high quality and innovative services to support their needs both locally and globally. Our core staff has been with the company since its early years, and we are proud to have very low staff attrition.

The First 10 Years

Founded in 1988 by Dr. Michel Jullian as OCM Technology, an offshoot of the Ontario Centre for Microelectronics, our early business focused on designing and manufacturing specialty microprocessor-based industrial automation modules for a number of leading global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including General Electric and Husky Injection Molding Systems.

As an integrated design and manufacturing organization, we became expert in the critical relationship between product design and manufacturability. Still today, we work diligently with customers to ensure that this expertise – called design for manufacturing (DFM) – can be leveraged to help them ensure that their products are successful in the market.

1998-Present

In the late 1990s, we reinforced our engineering and manufacturing-related capabilities to serve what we identified as an underserved market: companies producing low- to mid-volume electronics products.

We brought an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system online in 2000, improving customers service and business capabilities.

In 2003, we improved our Quality offering with Automated Optical Inspection (AOI). This year, our efforts to become a paperless enterprise began.

In 2004, we further solidified this commitment by establishing our present brand and name: OCM Manufacturing. We also set up complementary operations in China, focusing initially on sourcing lower cost components and subcontracting assembly of high-labour products.

In 2006, we became one of the first EMS providers in Canada to be lead-free-ready, ensuring that customers shipping products globally would be prepared for new environmental restrictions on product content.

In early 2007, we expanded our Asian sourcing operations to provide original design manufacturing (ODM) and rapid prototyping services. In 2008, the Chinese operation achieved ISO 9001:2000 registration.

Ontario’s Ministry of Small Business recognized OCM Manufacturing as a high-performance company of long standing in 2009.

In 2011, we introduced ProtoSnap, a dedicated local protoyping service. George Henning became the company’s President, while original Founder, Michel Jullian, became Chairman of the company’s new Advisory Board, comprised of industry veterans.

In 2012, we completed an expansion of our Ottawa operations, doubling capacity with a second line and adding complete system and box-build assembly and test services.

In September, 2013, we proudly celebrated our 25th anniversary! We continue to leverage the experience and capabilities we have developed over 25 years to manufacture low- to mid-volume products at all stages of life.

In July 2015, we registered with the Controlled Goods Program at Public Works and Government Services Canada. This enables us to better serve clients with military and security products.

In 2016, we expanded our capabilities in prototyping and test, including Flying Probe Test Services.
